Dysfunctional American Government

Who's in Charge Anyway?

During the last four years there seems to have been an increase in the amount of strife that exists within our branches of government. Rather than our elected representatives demonstrating wisdom and discernment in carrying out their responsibilities to solve problems they have stuck to partisan politics at all costs.

Recently I read an interview that was conducted with House Minority leader Harry Reid and he was asked about his demand that Mitt Romney prove he had files income tax returns. Even though he had no proof that Romney didn’t file his returns and therefore had no grounds for making such a demand, and even though Romney had provided his last three years for review, Reid was casting doubt on Romney’s compliance with the law for the years prior to that. In essence he was implying that Romney was a dishonest man who could not be trusted.

When asked if he regretted making such false assertions Reid simply replied, “he didn’t win now did he”? The man showed no remorse whatsoever for his actions. In other words the mindset of his party was “ do whatever it takes, no matter the cost “.

I am reminded of a passage from scripture that address this modern issue.

We read in Psalm 10:2-4; “The wicked arrogantly hunt down the poor. Let them be caught in the evil plan for others. For they brag about their evil desires; they praise the greedy and curse the Lord. The wicked are too proud to see God. They seem to think that God is dead.”

Further on we read in verses 6-7, “He says to himself, I will not be moved; throughout all generations I will not be in adversity. His mouth is full of curses and deceit and oppression; under his tongue is mischief and wickedness”.

All positions of authority are expected to live to a higher standard due to the awesome responsibility they have and the degree to which they can impact the lives of those around them. Our elected officials could certainly use a daily serving of some humble pie. The salvation of these arrogant men and women can only be found in the mantle of humility that will save them from being destroyed from pride and arrogance.

This runaway pride and arrogance has spawned a dysfunctional government that no longer fears the power of the people that placed them in the trusted positions they now occupy.

So what are we to do?

We are to take back ownership of our government and we start by praying daily for our elected officials.

How should you pray?

Here’s an example taken from this same Psalm; "Arise, O Lord. Punish the wicked, O God. Do not ignore the helpless. Why do the wicked get away with despising God? They think, God will never call us to account. But you see the trouble and grief they cause. You take note of it and punish them. The helpless put their trust in you. You even defend the orphans. The godless nations will vanish from the land. Let it not be so with us. Lord you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them. You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed, so mere people can no longer terrify them.”

I believe that this is a repentant prayer that God will honor if we are faithful and will stand in the gap for our nation. What is happening to our nation should grieve you, yes. But it should not discourage you from taking a stand against the forces of darkness that seek to destroy us from within by working through a distorted and even wicked mindset called Liberalism.

This Liberalism is a cancer to our society that is bent on our complete destruction. Why? Just pull out a dollar bill and read what it says on the back, “In God We Trust”.

You are still in control. This is your government and your country. God will hold us all accountable if we do nothing. If you still trust in God then show it by getting on your knees and pray to the living God who is able to deliver us all from this ever-growing evil.

Remember, "greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world".

God Bless You,

Luis Castillo
