Abortion pros and cons

We don't hear much talk about abortion pros and cons unless there's an election and liberal pundits are trying to stir up fear in their female base. The usual tactic is to paint the conservative candidate as someone who is archaic in their thinking and is bent on taking away women's rights.

If we simply look at the facts intelligently, without an bias, I truly believe that more people will come to the realization that abortion is actually a "crime" not just against the unborn but also against all women.

I also believe that if I stood on a corner in Times Square with my iPad and asked  the public passing by if abortion was a womens right that shouldn't be denied, and then should them a 30 second video clip of an actual abortion, they would quickly change their minds.

This section of my website is not about the political nature of abortion pros and cons nor whether it is right or wrong. There are several elements that you don't really hear anyone addressing whenever the subject is breached:

abortion is not healthcare
  • an analysis of the most recent abortion statistics
  • debunking the abortion pros and cons argument that it's about a women's right to do as she pleases with her body
  • the historical precedence and consequence of abortion pros and cons for the killing of innocent lives on such a large scale

Abortion Statistics

As I mentioned earlier one thing that is never mentioned during a discussion on the subject of abortion pros and cons is the actual statistics that have been collected. After I had an opportunity to view these abortion pros and cons statistics I can see why supporters don't want to shed light on this data. The following data was collected from two sources; Guttmacher Institute (AGI) and Center for Disease Control (CDC).

  1. In 2011, approximately 1.06 million babies were aborted in the U.S., down from an estimated 1.21 million babies aborted in 2008, 1.29 million in 2002, 1.31 million in 2000 and 1.36 million in 1996. From 1973 through 2011, nearly 53 million legal abortion pros and cons have occurred in the U.S. (AGI).
  2. The 2011 abortion rates by state ranged from a low of 3.8 babies aborted per 1,000 women aged 15-44 in Mississippi  (Wyoming had too few babies aborted for reliable tabulation) to a high of 28.6 babies aborted per 1,000 women aged 15-44 in New York (AGI).
  3. Half of pregnancies among American women are unintended; about 4 in 10 of these are terminated by abortion pros and cons. Twenty-one percent of all U.S. pregnancies (excluding miscarriages) end in babies being aborted. (AGI).
  4. In 2010, unmarried women accounted for 85% of all babies aborted (CDC).
  5. In 2010, women who had not aborted in the past accounted for 55.6% of all abortion pros and cons; women with one or two prior procedures accounted for 36.7%, and women with three or more prior procedures accounted for 7.7% (CDC).
  6. Black women were 3.7 times more likely to abort their babies in 2010 than non-Hispanic white women (CDC).
  7. The abortion rate of women with Medicaid coverage is three times as high as that of other women (NAF).
  8. On average, women give at least 3 reasons for choosing abortion: 3/4 say that having a baby would interfere with work, school or other responsibilities; about 3/4 say they cannot afford a child; and 1/2 say they do not want to be a single parent or are having problems with their husband or partner (AGI).
  9. Only 12% of women included a physical problem with their health among reasons for having an abortion (NAF).
  10. One per cent (of aborting women) reported that they were the survivors of rape (NAF)

Analysis of abortion pros and cons statistics

aborted child

No matter how you look at abortion pros and cons data there's good and there's bad. The biggest positive that we can draw from this is that the number of unborn babies aborted annually is trending down. About 300,000 less children are being aborted now than were in 1996. However since 1996 we have aborted at least 1 million children each year.

So who are the women who are responsible for these deaths? Clearly the majority of unborn babies aborted are taking place in states that are recognized as liberal, states like California, Florida and New York.

But why? Why do so many women end up aborting their babies? We know that 21% of all pregnancies end in abortion and that unmarried women account for 85% of abortion pros and cons. The most common reason sighted is inconvenience.

Unfortunately this is not what we are told via television or print media. The bulk of the argument in defense of abortion pros and cons is that women will be needlessly forced to put their lives in danger if they don't have access to medical professionals. They speak of abortion pros and cons procedures taking place in dark alleys or in places that are not properly equipped or staffed.

Another reason that we hear often is that women who are raped will be forced against their will to birth the child of their attacker and how much damage this would cause the woman.

Never do we have any public discussions about the welfare of the "unborn child".

Debunking the Pro-Choice Argument

We've all heard it, "it's my body, you don't have any say in this" or more recently, "stay out of my vagina". The other half of this defense is that those who want to take this right away are men.

Let me start out by saying that I too believe that women should be able to do whatever they want with their bodies... as long as it doesn't create a burden that society will have to carry. Having said that, let's take a closer look at liberal women's argument.

My Body, My Choice

It's my body. My Choice

If anyone has any recall from their biology class then you'll remember that the child get its blood from the father, not the mother. That's right. If you don't believe me just ask your doctor. Once the egg has been impregnated with the mans sperm and life begins to develop the woman serves as a safe haven for the unborn child (at least she's supposed to).

Preventing the abortion of an unborn child has nothing to do with violating a woman's right to decide what to do with her body. After all, she is not aborting any part of her body. That unborn child would not be there without the sperm of a man. A sperm which supplied the blood which the child needs to survive. That child is just as much the fathers offspring as it is the mothers.

It's one thing if the woman decides she's not ready to be a mother or perhaps doesn't feel she can provide for the child. However, it's a completely different matter to end the unborn child's life. Have they not considered giving the child up for adoption? Why isn't this option offered in all Planned Parenthood centers? That would be the loving thing to do. No one would criticize a women for making this choice.

Over 18% of abortion pros and cons are performed on women age 18 and under. And yet none of the directors of abortion clinics will advise them of the adoption option. I realize that this may not seem "convenient" for these centers and carrying the child to full term will interfere with the young lady's education or career. But why are abortion pros and cons not considered "inconvenient" for the unborn child?

These same women who object to any man telling them that they are not free to do with their bodies as they please are the same ones who will plead with their girlfriends to not drink or smoke during their pregnancy for the sake of the child. Why are they so concerned then, but refuse to say anything when the pregnant girlfriend wants to abort that same child?

As I stated earlier, a women is free to do with her body as she wishes. She is free to consume hard liquor, smoke, tattoo her body and even share her body with a dozen men a day if she so chooses. But the taking of an innocent life that is growing inside her is a completely different matter, especially since that "baby" is NOT her body.

I believe that in most cases deception and pressure are applied when a woman visits an abortion clinic. The driving force behind this is profit. In 2009 the average cost of a nonhospital abortion at 10 weeks gestation was $451. At over 1 million abortions per year that's a pretty profitable business for everyone involved.

Chickens coming home to roost

Like with so many other radical decisions this nation has made, there are consequences that will eventually come back to haunt us. The sexual revolution of the 1960's opened the door to a complete overhaul of our moral values as well as an increase in STD's to levels we had not known prior.

Our track record of aborting millions of babies has also cost us dearly. It has affected the women as well as the men who fathered these unborn. Our conscious has grown so numb that we no longer feel the guilt or the shame of participating in so many killings. Looking over the statistics I realized that we have killed more of our own children than any war, famine or plague combined in the history of this nation.

Each of these lives is precious and they matter to God. They were entrusted to us so that we in due time could offer them back to God...

"For Thou didst form my inward parts; thou didst weave me together in my mother's womb. I praise thee, for thou art fearful and wonderful. Wonderful are thy works! Thou knowest me right well; my frame was not hidden from thee, when I was being made in secret, intricately wrought in the depths of the earth. Thy eyes beheld my unformed substance; in thy book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them."

I have read a rebuttal from a pro-choice advocate that claims this passage is meaningless as a defense for pro-lifers. Here is the comment that was made by Joyce Arthur from an article posted in The Humanist in Canada;

"All this passage states is that God is directly involved in the creation of a fetus and knows its future. This is useless for the anti-choice position, since God creates all living things, including trees and bugs. Plus, just because God is supposedly omniscient doesn't give fetuses any special status—it simply means God already knows whether they will live or die. It is dishonest to conclude from this verse that a fetus is a human being deserving of more protection than women. The passage is poetic prose that anti-choicers have twisted and trivialized by giving it a literal, objective meaning where there is none."

If you read the sections I've underlined you can't help but see how disillusioned some of these people are. How can she say that God is directly involved in the creation of a fetus and in the same breath claim that it doesn't give fetuses any special status? How is the aborting of a child "protection" for the woman? Protection from what? What imminent danger? If you acknowledge that God is involved in creation of the fetus would you not be fearful to kill an innocent child that God has created?

For more affirmation that God considers the unborn child a human being refer to the passage in Exodus 21:22-23,

"If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,"

Why would God require the death penalty if he did not consider the unborn child to be a human being? Imagine how many important souls have been killed. Is it possible that the solution to cancer, alzheimers, MS and other tragedies died in our abortion clinics? Is it possible that God sent us our answer to prayer and yet we chose to abort it?

Consider the following historical figures being aborted and how life would be different;

  • Jesus Christ
  • John the Baptist
  • King David
  • Moses
  • Paul of Tarsus
  • George Washington
  • Thomas Jefferson
  • Dr. Ben Carson
  • Winston Churchill
  • Abraham Lincoln
  • Dr. Martin Luther King
  • Christopher Columbus

History Repeating Itself and maybe its Consequences as well

Why should we be concerned about the extent to which we have grown desensitized to the killing of unborn babies in this nation? You've heard it before, "those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it", and with regard to abortion pros and cons it would be worth taking a closer look at.

Where can we look in the annals of history to see if there is anything we can learn about the dangers of not eradicating the aborting of babies from our nation?

We are best served by turning back the pages of history, all the way to the eight century, to draw wisdom and insight for guidance and inspiration. Let's take a look at the ancient kingdom of Israel.

Israel was a nation, like ours, that had no idea what was coming their way as a result of their  moral condition. They were clueless about the reality that they were about to lose everything they had ever known.

When you consider that their rich history as a people chosen by God to reveal himself to the rest of the world would have been all the incentive they would need to maintain a righteous and morally upright life it's hard to believe that they would suffer they way they did.

Somehow they forgot the promises and the blessings God bestowed on them and no other nation. They forgot everything. Their purpose, their foundation which made them unique from every other nation in the world. No other nation had been called in existence for the sole purpose of God. No other people had been given a covenant with God himself.

What they forgot was that the covenant had a condition. If they followed God, adhered to his laws and statutes, they would be the most blessed of all nations. They would excel in everything not because of their own efforts but because God's favor would bring about good success to every household and thus the nation as a whole.

But if they ever chose to cast aside this covenant and his laws then their blessings would be removed and replaced with calamity.

Sounds like a great deal to me. However, they did, and the calamity God spoke of actually occurred. So we have to ask the question, "why would they turn away if they were given so much?"

I've read in several places that we experienced a form of a spiritual coma. I wonder if we will ever awaken from this coma and return to our spiritual roots. Let's continue with our examination of ancient Israel.

As you ponder the following facts think about the degree to which America has prospered and in such a short time and consider the similarities and what has changed during the last 50 years.

When the spiritual decline began the people were still using the name of God, calling on Him in times of need. However, there wasn't much reverence or fear of God at this point. Pretty soon God began to blend into the background of their lives rather than occupying a place of prominence.

They soon began to turn their backs on him, slowly at first, then it turned into a callous defiance. They drove Him out of their national life, their government and they started to bring in idols to replace him. If you looked all over the land you could monuments set up to the various idols.

They rejected God's covenant, his standards, replaced the values they once lived their lives by. I guess it was too "old school", times had changed, and they wanted to be like the other nations around them. They exchanged spirituality for sensuality, holiness for profanity and God's righteousness for their own self-interest.

Rather than holding fast to their faith, the faith that their entire nation had been built upon, they acted contrary to this faith and soon could no longer identify themselves as a people of great faith.

Todays abortions have replaced the ancient ritual of child sacrifices

(How can anyone watch this video and say that there is no life here and that Abortion is not murder?)

This eventually impacted their children. A horror filled the land that they had never experienced before. They began to offer up their own children as sacrifices. Yes, their sin was even greater, in my opinion, because they knowingly offered their young children, not unborn, to the Gods of Baal and Molech. What they once considered as right (the sanctity of all life), they now considered outdated, intolerant and immoral.

You say that I'm not making a fair analogy? How's that?

Isn't the one million acts of abortion pros and cons each year nothing more than the ritual of worshiping at the altar of selfishness and indulgence? Do you not think the same demonic forces present in ancient Israel have not invaded the hearts of Americans today and filled it with darkness and deception and are mocking us?

As Israel lived under the covenant of God I can guarantee you that Satan was busy planning an attack that would turn God's beloved people into a nation that would someday defy and hate their God. This is what he is always attempting to do. To separate the people from their God. He hates everything and everyone that honors God. He wants to steal kill and destroy. That is his daily agenda.

It's not difficult to see that from what this historical reference America has been headed down this same path with regard to abortion pros and cons.

There is a great deal to fear as we continue to abort over a million unborn babies each year. Our future is literally at stake. What blessings are we throwing away? Whenever God wanted to save his people he always sent them a prophet. How many prophets have we ignored? How many more killings will we allow to take place knowing full well that God is the author of all life and will hold us accountable?

Will we continue to ignore history and do we now no longer fear the consequences of our poor decisions?
