Believe More in God's Promise than your Circumstances

by Luis Castillo

The last few months I have been going through a transition in my vocation. It has been very trying and took me further from my comfort zone than I have ever been before. I have had my faith tested to a greater extent. I have to admit, I was about to cry out and tell God that I was not able to endure this test. But once again He showed me grace.

In chapter 4 of the book of Romans we read about the man Abraham and how he earned the title "father of faith". It tell us that Abraham chose to take God at this word regarding the promise God made to him. He was promised that God would make him a "father of many nations".

This chapter speaks to us about being made righteous in the site of God, not by works or earning it, but rather by faith. As I read this passage again recently it reinforced in my mind that when God is about to do something great in a persons life he creates circumstances in that persons life which will test their integrity, their resolve.

Abraham was promised a son despite he and his wife being far too old physically to conceive children. Abraham new that in the natural, he and Sarah his wife, could try and conceive children. But he knew that it would take a miracle. It was a miracle of God that he was trusting in and waiting for. I'm sure he and Sarah continued having sex, each time, hoping that it would lead to a pregnancy.

Despite no child coming forth month after month he continued to believe. He meditated on the promise that God had made. The scriptures tells us "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness (to be in right standing with God)". No where is there an account of Abraham losing hope and giving up on God.

As a matter of fact the scriptures tell us, "In hope against hope he believed so that he might become a father of many nations according to that which had been spoken, "So shall your descendants be". Without becoming weak in faith he contemplated his own body, now as good as dead since he was about a hundred years old, and the deadness of Sarah's womb; yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform".

My friend, if you will trust that Jesus' dying on the cross paid the penalty for your sins and restored you to a right relationship with Father God then you can trust him to deliver you also from any difficult situation you are facing.

Be like Abraham, choose to believe more in God than in your circumstances, and receive what you have need of from him. I am currently experiencing that like never before these days. The more I focus on Him and his word rather than my circumstance the smaller my troubles become and the greater the peace and eventually the victory I experience.

There is no trouble that you can't overcome when you learn to live in His presence to meditate on the goodness of God. After all, what has meditating on your problems ever done for you?
