can a Dysfunctional American Government be fixed ?

The reality of a dysfunctional American government  has been accentuated by the historic results of the 2014 mid-term elections. Democrats were sent a strong message by the voters - "the substance of your governing was not benefiting us and therefore not acceptable". They lost over a dozen seats in the Congress and the Republicans gained a degree of control of both houses never before seen.

government doesn't work

President Obama is now showing his true colors even though he initially tempered his remarks immediately following the election. His comments several days later were laced with a hint of disdain for the results and specifically for the voters who chose not to back him up

Even the media is pulling back. He is now a defiant President on a vengeful mission set out to do what he desires no matter what the consequence. A defiant President leading a dysfunctional American government? The American people have never seen the likes of this before.

Democrats are now critically weakened and are scrambling for a plan to regain momentum to continue to push their agenda albeit while distancing themselves from this President. They no longer trust him. You can't make this stuff up folks. Hollywood writers could not have designed a more intriguing evening soap opera to portray this dysfunctional american government.

Unconstitutional President + Dysfunctional American Government = Collapse

dysfunctional obama

What we now have is an extremely alarming combination that we have never before seen or experienced. Our constitution was designed specifically to maintain balance between the three branches of government, a separation of powers, to protect liberty.

It’s to keep any branch from assuming so much control so that a dysfunctional American government doesn't become a threat to our liberty. What is threatening our liberty is that on one side we have Obama's lack of transparency, blatant dishonesty, and disregard for the constitution despite what he says publicly. On the other side we have a Congress that is unwilling to carry out it's responsibility as set forth in the constitution.

This is like having two adults living with a house full of kids with one adult refusing to be a parent and the other adult choosing to ride roughshod over any family member that questions the logic of decisions made or of actions taken. I couldn't paint a clearer picture of a dysfunctional American government.

The most current drama we're facing involves two hotly debated issues; the repealing of Obamacare, a plan that we now know the people at large neither like nor want, and Amnesty for over 5 million illegal immigrants. Only because we have a truly dysfunctional American government are these issues still unresolved.

Recently Fox News legal analyst, Judge Andrew Napolitano, gave his analysis of the current situation we are now facing:

“When he suspends deportations and when he imposes his own conditions on those suspensions, he’s effectively rewriting the law and that violates his oath to enforce it, hold the law as it’s been written,” Napolitano said.

“The American people, the Congress need to know we have a president who will enforce the law. … When he says, ‘I’m not going to enforce the law because I don’t like it,’ or, ‘I’m impatient,’ that doesn’t wash under the Constitution,” Napolitano said.

He confirmed that all presidents “have some discretion” with the enforcement of the laws written by Congress.

“We call it prosecutorial discretion. He can suspend some prosecutions because he wants to reallocate assets; but he cannot suspend a statute. If he suspends the prosecution of 5 million human beings under certain conditions that he made up, he is effectively rewriting the statute. And the effect of his exercise of his discretion is the opposite of what the law commands.”

What have Obama and Congress Taught Us?

freedom lost

Again, we as a democratic republic have never been exposed to such a dysfunctional American government and we have done nothing about it. How long will this go on? When will the people take back their government? Is it possible?

recommended Solutions for a dysfunctional american government

  • Learn to appreciate the form of government that we have, otherwise be prepared to lose it. In order for our dysfunctional American government to work as it was designed we must hold it accountable and make sure that it stays true to its purpose and operates within the parameters laid out by the constitution. Have a solid understanding of how our government is supposed to work. Our founding fathers took into consideration the flaws of mankind and that restrictions needed to put in place to prevent a dictatorship from taking over our government. They understood that a government without a biblical basis for the creation of laws would soon operate without a moral compass thereby drifting in whatever direction the prevailing cultural winds of the time were blowing.
  • Participate in the election of our government officials at every local and national election and select a candidate based on character, qualifications and their respect for the constitution. Attractive rhetoric such as "change we can live with" should not be what motivates us. The candidate you select should respect and govern according to the constitution. If you don't, you'll soon be living under another peoples laws such as Sharia Law.
(See Sharia Law for Non-Muslims (A Taste of Islam) )
  • Learn to enforce term limits by voting out of office those that do not respect democracy and our constitution. Conversely, reward and encourage your elected officials by communicating to them your satisfaction with the execution of their constitutional duties. As public servants they should be appreciated when they effectively represent you and your interests.
  • Government of the people by the people for the people. We are not "subjects" of this dysfunctional American government. Never feel helpless and leave it up to someone else to deal with holding this government accountable. If you fail in this respect you'll soon find a radical minority has taken it over and is imposing it's values on you.
  • Assimilation. Insist on it. What has made us such a great nation all these years is our diversity and our ability to be one in spite of this diversity. What has made this possible is the unique character trait that we share, calling ourselves "Americans", even though we do not share a common heritage. It is the cohesiveness of us as Germans, Italians, Africans, Cubans, Irish, Japanese, Polish, etc. that has made us invincible. We are different pieces of a huge puzzle that has chosen to come together in order to from a more perfect union. We should not allow future generations to settle here and enjoy our benefits and privileges without a willingness to assimilate. Individuals aren't allowed to be part of a team and wear the uniform and take credit for the victories if they aren't willing to show up for practice, train hard, pay the price and give 110% during the game.

from dysfunctional to exceptional

god save america

As we move forward and prepare ourselves for the upcoming elections there is still a lot that can be accomplished by the President and Congress. The only unknown at this time is whether or not we will have any regrets with their decisions and actions or lack thereof.

You and I may not have clear cut solutions to solve our dilemma. My I propose what will seem like an unconventional remedy and what some may very well consider to be Gubernatorial blasphemy. Let us pray for our elected servants. Theirs is not a task that should be entered into lightly. All elected officials should understand the tremendous responsibility that is being thrust upon them once they take their vows of office.

I recall a young man who at the tender age of 18 was called upon to lead a great nation. This young man was named Solomon, son of David, King of Israel. As David lay on his death bed he understood the all important task of making sure that there was as a smooth transition of power for the sake of the kingdom. When he chose Solomon he chose wisely.

Solomon in turn knew that he was ill prepared to take over for his father but he nevertheless did not shrink away from what he was handed. Let' turn to the bible, 2 Chronicles, Chapter 1, to see what happened and what our officials can learn.

That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.”

Solomon answered God, “You have shown great kindness to David my father and have made me king in his place. Now, Lord God, let your promise to my father David be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people who are as numerous as the dust of the earth. 10 Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?”

11 God said to Solomon, “Since this is your heart’s desire and you have not asked for wealth, possessions or honor, nor for the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people over whom I have made you king, 12 therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you wealth, possessions and honor, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have.”

First, please note that Solomon acknowledged that it was God that made him king. He understood that it was God that he was ultimately answerable to. He had seen how his father David had relied on his creator for favor and victory over his enemies and lived in submission to God the father.

The writers of our constitution were well aware of the inherent weaknesses of all elected government servants. They saw the flaw of a built in tendency in each of us to govern from a self-centered mindset. This mindset has led us to having the current dysfunctional American government that we now have.

To quickly forget that we were temporarily handed the levers of governing by our fellow citizens to govern the matters of the nation for the good of all without prejudice and with reverent fear of God.

Abraham Lincoln was also well aware of the dangers present in a government of men when he clearly stated, "that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth" in his Gettysburg address. He accurately stated that a great price had just been paid in order to maintain the union which we call the United States of America and that we should not take so lightly the lives of so many men lost in the struggle we call the Civil War.

We have been advised from history to guard against allowing for a dysfunctional american government.
