When I searched for information on how to become safe for success I was actually surprised that the first page in all the search engines didn't have anything to offer that I was truly interested in. Most were related to the safety industry and had nothing to do with preparing ourselves to prosper.
My objective is to present the concept that a faith-based foundation must first be laid before we begin traveling down the road of life looking for any degree of success. I realize that this is not a subject that is typically discussed when we begin looking for methods to prosper.
But I hope that when I'm finished you will agree that before you begin building whatever it is you have in mind to get you to your goal of success that you will consider preparing in advance and learn the value of how to become safe for success.
In my previous article on this subject I explained that when we learn to practice the presence of Jesus as Joseph did (see Genesis chapter 39) we can experience the same results he did in spite of being exposed to adverse conditions. It was the preparation he had made years before that enabled him to endure extreme hardships and then later extreme success.
If not for the period of preparation he most certainly would not have been able to handle the success he experienced as the Prime Minister of Egypt, second only to Pharoah. Success can be fatal if we are not properly prepared to carry the weight of it.
All of us are wired to succeed. Not one of us ever gets out of bed in the morning hoping that everything will go wrong that day or that our plans will only bring about limited success. Whether its the desire to avoid traffic en route to work, getting along with that hard to deal with co-worker, or avoiding another knockout drag out fight with our teenage daughter. We all want to succeed at the things we undertake.
In most cases we move out in faith each day believing and hoping for the best. Some days turn out better than others. For those days that end up as terrible, horrible, very bad days many of us turn to alcohol, food, or take it out on our loved ones and then slide into bed looking to put the day behind us.
But what about those of us who are driven to overcome each day no matter what? Are we prepared for that big day when we reach the pinnacle of success? I can assure you that God is concerned about your success and how it impacts your life.
"For I know the plans that I have for you declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me and search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you, declares the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from where I sent you into exile".
Throughout the scriptures we read that God is concerned about our welfare. In good times and bad. As it relates to success, God does not want us to have success that will crush us.
There are numerous stories of individuals who have suddenly experienced a windfall either because of a winning lottery ticket or an unexpected inheritance. For many of them their lives did not change for the better. We even see this happen to professional athletes. For too many of them sudden success corrupted and destroyed their lives.
Be careful. Don't think that it couldn't happen to you. Those whose lives were destroyed by tremendous success never saw destruction coming. For those who chanced upon sudden wealth and squandered it all away they clearly has no idea of the Jesus-kind of success.
God has no problem with his children having a lot of money. His greatest concern is that he doesn't want money to have them. "Wait a minute, doesn't the bible say that money is the root of all evil" you may be thinking. Actually, what the bible says is, "for the LOVE of money is the root of all kinds of evil" (1 Tim 6:10).
Just because a person isn't wealthy or even poor doesn't qualify them as holy. That same person may spend hours a day thinking and lusting after money, purchasing lottery tickets with their hard earned money instead of buying food or investing soundly.
When we learn how to be safe for success we become good soil for the Lord to plant a blessing so that we can be a blessing to others. Christians are called to be a blessing to the world. Our source for being a blessing to others is Jesus Christ. However, how can we be a blessing if we're flat broke?
Before you click the back let me first clarify that I am not a "prosperity gospel" fanatic. Far from it. There is only one Gospel and it is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
As a student of the Gospel I have learned that the death and resurrection of Jesus accomplished more than many of us realize. It is the total and finished work for the redemption of mankind. When Jesus, while on the cross, looked up to heaven and cried out, "it is finished" he was referring to the work of redemption. There was nothing more that needed or could be done for us.
As the power of the resurrection life brought him back from the grave it cancelled out every other power that held Him in the grave and us in bondage. We are now redeemed from the powers of sickness, and disease for "by his stripes you were healed". Jesus did more than pay the price for our sins. He paid it all.
His death on the cross also bore the curse of poverty. By studying His life we learn how to become safe for success. Don't take my word for it, look it up for yourself. The following passages make this clear;
"The thief only comes to steal kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly" John 10:10
"For you know the grace (unmerited favor) of our Lord Jesus Christ, that thought He was rich, yet for your sakes He becane poor, that you through His poverty might become rich" 2 Cor 8:9
I realize that some of you are very uncomfortable with talking about money and the scriptures in the same breath as if we had committed some blasphemous act. Let me assure you that the Gospel is not referring to "spiritual" riches in this passage. The entire chapter is about money and meeting the needs of others. It is teaching us how to become safe for success.
My friend God paid a heavy price to redeem you from the curse of sickness and poverty. Don't make light of it by trying to act holy and righteous and pretend that attaining prosperity is not Godly. Learning how to become safe for success is the Godly thing.
How can you be a blessing to the world if you can't help meet the needs of others when they come to you?
How can you help finance inner city ministries that are reaching to lost souls trapped in a life of prostitution, gang warfare or narcotics when you have to buy used tires for your car because you can't afford new ones? By learning how to become safe for success.
When you consider how to become safe for success I want you to think along the lines of relationship. How would you teach your own child what they need to know on this subject? How would you teach your child about patience and character? By allowing them to be exposed to sickness, disease and lack? Of course not. Then why would you believe that God would act that way towards you?
The more you come to know your Father in heaven the more you begin to think and act like Him. You'll discover that God will teach you about character, patience and humility by teaching you to rest from all the common ways of strife and struggling that separates you from Him and begin to depend on Him. He will teach you how to become safe for success.
In the same way that you want your children to have more than enough, God wants you to enjoy His supernatural provision. When He provides for your needs you'll be blown away by how generous He is. I have experienced his supernatural provision on many occasions.
When your priorities are properly lined up, rather than be in contradiction to what God wants for you, you'll be doing things according to His kingdom. When you are lined up with the way things are done in the kingdom of God things begin to flow towards you. You gain insight on how to become safe for success.
In his letter to the church in Rome Paul writes, "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you".
The obvious question at this point is "what is the kingdom of God"? Paul goes on to say that the kingdom of God is not drinking, but "righteousness and peace and joy in the holy spirit".
By focusing your attention on Jesus and his grace instead of being consumed by the concerns of this world you will begin to experience life in the kingdom of God. In His kingdom there is ample supply to meet the needs of all His children. In His kingdom everyone is learning how to become safe for success.
The gospels reveal an aspect of God the father that is important for us to get a hold of. It tells us that if our heavenly feeds the birds of the air and they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns. how more will He take care of us, who are much more valuable to Him than birds.
I want to encourage you to keep your eyes on Jesus because therein lies your security. Remember, He has already done all that could be done when he suffered and died on the cross. If He would offer up His only begotten Son than why would he keep you from attaining all that your need.
The key to your provision is to keep your eyes on Him and His finished work on the cross. Every time you see the cross imagine it like a bill you received in the mail except that his one has been stamped "PAID IN FULL". Not only will he provide what you need in life he will add many more blessings to these.
He will show you how to become safe for success. Let me provide you with another passage from scripture that will further solidify my point that God wants the best for you and also wants you to realize that all good things come from Him;
"Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises lovingkindness, justice, and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things" declares the Lord. Jeremiah 9:23-24
The more you focus on Jesus, the less you'll struggle to earn what you need in this life, the safer you'll become for greater success.Brave Enough to Follow: What Jesus Can Do When You Keep Your Eyes on Him
