We are now being forced to say no to transgender restrooms. As a parent of school-age children I believe this has become the latest among many issues that our children have become entangled in without any effort on their part. How and why has this gender identity issue suddenly taken center stage along with other sexually related matters?
Should America say no to transgender restrooms or do we simply capitulate because we don't have the stomach for another fight for decency lest we be labeled once again as bigots?
Before we examine this latest issue of how to say no to transgender restrooms let's first establish an acceptable transgender definition. From what I was able to find after scouring a number of articles I feel comfortable with the following definition;
"transgender is an umbrella term for persons whose gender identity, gender expression or behavior does not conform to that typically associated with the sex to which they were assigned at birth. Gender identity refers to a persons internal sense of being male, female, or something else..."
Now that we have that out of the way let's take a look at a recent incident that may set the stage for what we may be looking at for some time to come.
In a recent article posted by the The Daily Signal I read that a school district, Palatine 211, near Chicago is dealing with a transgender issue. Apparently the administrators have been proactive in accommodating their transgender students.
Transgenda - Abuse and Regret in the Sex-Change Industry
However, they are facing increased pressure from the Federal government to not prevent transgender students from having unhindered access to other students in locker rooms. They have been found guilty of violating Title IX, the law prohibiting sex-based discrimination, in spite of all its efforts.
“All students deserve the opportunity to participate equally in school programs and activities—this is a basic civil right. Unfortunately, Township High School District 211 is not following the law because the district continues to deny a female student the right to use the girls’ locker room,” said Catherine Lhamon, assistant secretary for civil rights at the Department of Education, in a statement.
As a result of the school district finding a way to say no to transgender restrooms, it has 30 days to comply or face losing millions in federal funding. Never mind that teenage girls will be forced to use open showers with a transgender boy. I don't know about you but my daughter would get yanked out of there before that would happen. I would be encouraging all the other parents to say no to transgender restrooms and locker rooms.
What makes this case different is that this is one school district that's not marching in lock step with the liberal agenda that is typically found in most school districts. This school board is actually focused on complying with the desires of the families rather than ignoring it.
As Cates, the superintendent, puts it bluntly in his statement, "The students in our schools are teenagers, not adults, and one's gender is not the same as one's anatomy. Boys and girls are in separate locker rooms - where there are open changing areas and open shower facilities- for a reason."
Folks, this is about common sense. Students should not be forced to share restroom and locker room facilities with students who retain the anatomy of a different gender. Why? Because it honors the privacy rights of students.
Can you imagine a sixteen year old boy showering and undressing along with girls he attends classes with. I bet all the other "normal" hormone-raged boys in that school would love to have that same opportunity offered to them. Or course, for obvious reasons that would never be permitted.
I assume the liberal's argument would be that the transgender students would not be prone to the passions of the gender identity they were born with and as a result be of no threat to members of the opposite sex. Never mind that the young ladies who are true to the gender would be forced to endure exposure that neither they nor their parents want.
From what I could learn about the situation at District 211 the Federal government is placing the preferences of transgender students ahead of other students.
Why? Why are we so prone to giving in to every minority segment at the expense of others? Why is a community not able to say no to transgender restrooms without getting caught in the cross hairs of of the Office of Civil rights?
It seems that common sense doesn't matter in instances such as this. I say that because I believe there is a hidden agenda that needs to be promoted at all costs and our federal government is all in. President Obama, who I still believe is no fan of America, is determined to keep his promise to "transform" this country. If his administration has its way by the time he leaves office he will have done just that.
All the Biblically-based Christian values that make this country unique and powerful is what he is after. He has strategically attacked our Christian values through his support of abortionists, same-sex marriages, illegal immigration, leniency towards terrorists (Guantanamo Bay), gays in the military, silencing of chaplains in the military, fiscal irresponsibility, and the list goes on.
Fringe groups that were already within the fabric of this nation are now leapfrogging the rest of us and are now given preference under the guise that they are a group whose rights need protecting from the rest of us. It's the governments job to keep then safe from us hateful conservative Christians.
This whole issue of transgenders having access to biologically different genders is simply another Trojan horse being used to demonize and silence Christians and anyone else who believes in American exceptionalism. I think American can compassionately unite and say no to transgender restrooms.
