Surviving Tough Economic Times

What's your plan to survive tough economic times?

In case you haven't noticed the world is in trouble and no one seems to have the answer. Every time we try to implement a solution to our economic woes we experience at best temporary relief only to have economic uncertainty rear its ugly head once again.

I have learned from experience that no matter how well I may plan for my financial security no one can guarantee that what I am expecting and planing for will actually manifest when I reach that wonderful age qualifying me for retirement.

The number of people who have less than fifty thousand dollars in their accounts is proof that we are not able to establish financial security for our golden years.

So what's the answer? What other option is there that we haven't yet realized?

As of the fourth quarter of 2012 the latest statistics report that 35.4 percent of Americans received benefits from one or more federally funded "means-tested programs" also known as welfare according to data released by the census bureau. That's 109,631,000 Americans.

It is expected that once Obamacare has been fully implemented, with it's provisions expanding Medicaid and providing health insurance subsidies, that nearly half of all Americans will be taking benefits from the federal government. This toll on the government revenues will further impact taxpayers by placing an even heavier burden on them.

More and more Americans are turning to the government to rescue them. This is the same federal government that can't manage the nations finances and has accumulated over eighteen trillion dollars in national debt of which we are paying interest in excess of two trillion dollars as of February 2015.

How can any of us be hopeful about our nations future?

Perilous Times are Here

The word of God is what I trust. It has never failed me. It protects me even in tough economic times. In this following passage God warns us that we are to expect difficult times. These times are certain no matter what country you live in.

"But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come." 2 Tim 3:1

God, however, doesn't leave us hopeless. I have learned that God wants his children to cling to Him and not the government or the worlds system when it comes to our security during tough economic times.

Whether intentionally or not our government is constantly trying to replace God in out lives when it comes to our allegiance, provision and hope. Many in the government, especially at the federal level have the belief that the government can fix everything as long as they have enough money to spend.

Children of God in America must learn that they may live in America and within its world systems and way of doing things but they are not of America's world system and do not have to be subject to it.

"I have given them Your word, and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I  am not of the world. I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is the truth".

If we learn to take God at His word we are promised that we can rise above the circumstances around us. The economic conditions around us do not have to impact our homes and families if we learn to operate within the kingdom of God while we live in America.

All that God did for His people in the Old Testament He is still willing and able to do for us today who choose to live within the Kingdom of God. He is always willing to show himself to be a mighty God to those who believe in Him and trust in his saving grace during tough economic times.

The Egyptians experienced his power through the plagues that God sent throughout the land. At one point, after sending numerous plagues, God sent Moses to address Pharaoh concerning the next plague that was on its way;

"But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, where my people are living, so that no swarm of flies will be there, in order that you may know that I, the Lord, am in the midst of the land. I will put a division between my people and your people. Tomorrow this sign will occur". Exodus 8:22-23

With each plague that inflicted the land, there was an exception in the land of Goshen where Gods people were living. They were never subject to the circumstances that afflicted the welfare of the Egyptians. Each plague impacted the economy of Egypt and as a result all the people of the land experienced tough economic times. All, that is, except for God's people.

"The Lord also will be a refuge and a high tower for the oppressed, a refuge and a stronghold in times of trouble (high cost, destitution, and desperation). And they who know Your name (who have experience and acquaintance with Your mercy) will lean on and confidently put their trust in You, for You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek (inquire of and for) You [on the authority of God's Word and the right of their necessity]." Ps 9:9-10

We Have Been Transferred to His Kingdom

Just as sure as God rescued His people from the afflictions the Egyptians endured He is prepared to do the same for His children in America today. He is ready to do this for His children no matter where they are. The world and its systems as indicated by their current state have all turned their backs on God.

They are not operating under the kingdom principles. They have chosen to be governed and manipulated by the forces of darkness just as Pharaoh chose to have his people live in darkness while the people of God lived in the light. Egypt's darkness represents lack, poverty and shortage. All indicative of tough economic times.

If you love God and trust in Him there is much to be hopeful about.

giving thanks to the Father, who qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light . For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the domain of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins". Col. 1:12-14

God's word reminds us that we are no longer subject to the changing global winds and resulting tough economic times. Governments come and governments go, the economy rises and it falls, none of this matters to God. There is never a recession in God's kingdom. As a result of the finished work of Jesus Christ we have been given access to His kingdom to partake in the inheritance that awaits us.

Children of God take part in the economy of God's kingdom by faith. They exercise their faith by sowing into the kingdom. They sow through their tithes and offerings. Following this very simple principle protects the finances of the children of God during tough economic times around them.

Always acknowledging God by giving Him the tithe, ten percent of their increase, assures them that will He will bless the remaining ninety percent. The tithe belongs to God. As we give the tithe we demonstrate obedience. With obedience comes the blessings of God.

We Don't have to Suffer Through Tough Economic Times

Children of God wanting to live in the Kingdom of God must learn that He has set up laws and statures to protect and bless us. Here in America we have laws that have been set up to protect us and assure that we have the opportunity to safely pursue the American dream of creating a prosperous life for ourselves and our children.

If our founding fathers cared enough about us to set up a constitution and bill of rights to assure us all the opportunities for a satisfying life don't you think that God would do at least as much for everyone living in His kingdom?

As long we honor Him by following His laws of the kingdom we have the right to expect and participate in the blessings. If we fail to follow those laws then we are subject to the systems of the world as well suffering in tough economic times. The prophet Malachi warned Israel of the consequences of not honoring God and what to expect if they repented and turned their hearts back to Him.

"From the days of your fathers you have tuned aside from My statutes and have not kept them. Return to me and I will return to you", says the Lord of hosts. But you say, "How shall we return? Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me. But you say, How have we robbed You? In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing Me, the whole nation of you. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me in this", says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows. Then I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of the ground; nor will your vine in the field cast its grapes, says the Lord of hosts. All the nations will call you blessed, for you shall be a delightful land, says the Lord of hosts".

Our prosperity is tied up in God. If we commit to being tithers and sowers we can expect to prosper even in tough economic times. God's word assures us of this. By tithing and being generous in our giving we subject ourselves to the blessing of God rather than cursing ourselves.

We must take a tough stand when everything around us seems to be in chaos and all the reports and forecast speak of tough economic times. God has a hundred ways to prosper us, but we need to take a stand on His word, and not trust the world system that we are exposed to.

We must be careful to think that there is never a way for us to prosper. God will make a way. When the word of God gets deep in your heart and eventually starts to come out of your mouth you find that there's power in your words. That's because you'll be speaking God's words. When we speak His word we are agreeing with Him. His words never fail to accomplish what they say.

The good news is that we've been translated out of this world system and into God's kingdom. It is now our responsibility to learn how to live in that kingdom and avoid being impacted by the worlds tough economic times. Our minds must be renewed. Our words and our actions must be changed so we don't tie constrict ourselves to living in the kingdom of darkness, the world system.
